UN Food Systems Summit: New date announced

The virtual event will take place on 23 September during the UN General Assembly in New York

After experiencing Covid 19-related postponements, the UN Food Systems Summit has been confirmed for 23 September 2021. Billed "The People's Summit," the virtual event will be hosted by the UN Secretary-General, and will build on the outcome of a "Pre-Summit" held in July 2021.
The objective of the Summit is to empower all people to leverage the power of food systems to drive our recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic and get us back on track to achieve all 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030.
However, the 18-month preparatory process has been marked by controversy, with many civil society organisations announcing their withdrawal and convening a "Peoples’ Counter-Mobilization to Transform Corporate Food Systems" as an alternative to the Pre-Summit.
TMG and its partners are organising a series of webinars in the lead up to, and following the Summit to highlight the close link between food security, human rights, and climate-resilient development.
