Why do we need to change the economics of our food systems?

A lecture and discussion by Alexander Müller

Our food system is broken!
Globally, more than two billion people globally are malnourished, of which 800 million people go to bed hungry. Agriculture is responsible for land degradation and loss of biodiversity, is the biggest user of water and contributes to climate change.
The economics of the food systems however, ignores all these negative externalities and still claims that food in supermarkets is cheap. The dominant emphasis on yields or profits per hectare is is disregarding social, natural and human capital. In order to achieve sustainable food systems we must change the food metrics.
This online lecture and discussion is led by TMG Managing Director Alexander Müller and hosted by the University of Kassel. Registration is free through this link: Meeting Registration - Zoom.
